Protective Schools

Kids cannot be successful in school if they are the subjects of drug abuse, violence, teen pregnancy or school failure.

Ten principles that foster protective schools were identified by a group of panel of national education and prevention experts. Research indicates that these principles are effective for both prevention and academic development. Combining the best in both education and prevention can help children avoid risk-taking behavior while overcoming barriers to academic success.

The ten characteristics of protective schools are Vision; Positive Culture; Leadership; Academic Program; Prevention Curriculum; Continuum of Services; Professional Development; Family and Community Relationships; Funding and Resources; and Data Based Decisions.
